Launch of the Scientific Conference on Environmental Pollution and Climate Change
The activities of the Fourth Scientific Conference of the Research and Consultation Center, entitled “Environmental Pollution and Climate Change,” commenced on Tuesday morning, November 7, 2023, at the auditorium of the Faculty of Science – Gharyan, at 10:00 a.m.
The opening ceremony began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the Libyan National Anthem and a moment of silence in memory of the victims of Derna and Gaza. This was followed by a series of welcoming addresses, beginning with a speech by Prof. Dr. Nasr Eshtawa, President of the University, followed by a speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Mathnani, Acting Deputy Director of the Libyan Center for Environmental Studies, Research and Technology, representing the Center at the conference. The opening addresses continued with a speech by Prof. Dr. Emhamed Al-Habshi, Chair of the Preparatory Committee, and concluded with remarks by Dr. Omar Al-Marhaq, Chair of the Scientific Committee.
The scientific sessions commenced with a keynote lecture on “Environmental Culture and Its Role in Raising Environmental Awareness in Libyan Society.” Following a breakfast break, scientific papers were presented in successive sessions held across two halls.
The conference featured approximately 50 scientific papers submitted by researchers from various Libyan universities, in addition to international contributions from Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria.
The presented papers covered a diverse range of important topics related to environmental pollution and climate change, with particular emphasis on their impact on human health.
The conference concluded with the presentation of its recommendations, followed by the distribution of participation certificates and certificates of appreciation to the participants, as well as recognition of the committees and teams that contributed to organizing and conducting the conference.
