University of Gharyan Participates in the First Periodic Meeting of Research and Consultation Centers at Libyan Universities for 2024
The Research, Scientific Consultation, and Training Centers at Libyan universities held their first periodic meeting for the year 2024 on Wednesday evening, December 4, 2024, via Google Meet, with the participation of directors of research and consultation centers from a number of Libyan universities, including the University of Gharyan.
The University of Gharyan was represented by the Director of the Research and Consultation Center, alongside the directors of research centers from the participating universities.
The meeting began with a welcome to all participants, followed by a discussion of several items on the agenda, focusing primarily on strengthening research cooperation among research centers at Libyan universities and enhancing their role in advancing scientific research and serving society.
The participants discussed the proposed Cooperation Agreement among Research Centers at Libyan Universities, which aims to broaden cooperation in scientific research by making available resources and facilities at research centers accessible to researchers and postgraduate students, thereby supporting the conduct of high-quality scientific research. The agreement also includes cooperation in training, knowledge exchange, and the sharing of expertise.
The meeting also addressed the arrangements required for signing the agreement by university presidents and directors of research centers. Participants emphasized the importance of having the agreement signed under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and completing the process as soon as possible.
Regarding efforts to strengthen the role of research centers at Libyan universities, participants emphasized that these centers provide an essential environment for conducting high-quality research that addresses issues of relevance to society and the environment. They proposed beginning the implementation of the agreement’s provisions, identifying the requirements needed to support high-quality research, and establishing joint research teams. They also proposed organizing joint workshops to raise awareness of the role of research centers and promote collaborative approaches to overcoming resource limitations that may hinder their activities.
The meeting further addressed several emerging issues, most notably the absence of a unified regulation governing the work of research centers, as well as differences in the names and functions assigned to these centers. In particular, some centers include training among their responsibilities, while others do not.
The participants also emphasized the importance of establishing joint research teams and their role in strengthening scientific collaboration and increasing opportunities to secure international grants and funding for research projects that address community needs and align with national research priorities.
The University of Gharyan’s participation in this meeting reflects its commitment to strengthening its role in scientific research, expanding cooperation with Libyan universities, and contributing to the development of a collaborative research framework that supports researchers, enhances scientific output, and serves society.
