University of Gharyan Research and Consulting Center Organizes a Workshop on

“Economic Integration between Coastal and Mountain Cities”

As part of the University of Gharyan’s commitment to development, advancement, and scientific research, the University hosted, on Tuesday morning, January 18, 2022, a workshop organized by the University’s Research and Studies Center at the Faculty of Engineering – Gharyan.

The workshop commenced with opening remarks delivered by Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Gouma, President of the University; Dr. Ali Mohamed Al-Faqi, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Emhamed Al-Habashi, Director of the University’s Research and Studies Center. They welcomed the guests and attendees and emphasized their commitment to cooperation and to contributing to any programs aimed at advancing the region and society as a whole.

The workshop focused on two important presentations, which served as the basis for the subsequent discussion.

The first presentation was delivered by Eng. Al-Taher Al-Huwaij, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jabal Al-Arab Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, under the title “Economic Integration between Coastal and Mountain Cities.”

The second presentation was delivered by Dr. Aboulqassim Al-Badri, entitled “An Initiative to Establish the Libyan Network of Think Tanks and Research Centers.”

The workshop was also attended by a delegation from the Libyan Company for Partnership with the Private Sector (PPP), which expressed its willingness to collaborate with the University of Gharyan in launching joint programs focusing on scientific research, development, and studies that support the private sector and enhance the performance of the public sector.

The delegation consisted of:

• Mr. Khalifa Ahmed Al-Wasif, Director of the Department of Relations.
• Mr. Al-Sadiq Al-Bashir Al-Rabiti, Director of the Department of Audit and Follow-up.
• Dr. Abdulmuttalib Khalifa Bin Amara, Director of the Planning Department, who enriched the workshop with an important contribution to the discussion.

The workshop was attended by numerous figures involved in commerce, industry, and agriculture, as well as individuals interested in economic development and ways to promote and enhance the region’s economic potential.

Following an extensive discussion involving the majority of attendees, the participants proposed establishing a long-term partnership between the University of Gharyan and the institutions represented by the presented papers, whether the Western Mountain Chamber of Commerce or the Think Tanks and Research Centers initiative.

The University of Gharyan is expected to serve as one of the key pillars in studying and researching the mechanisms and activities of these initiatives, which seek to advance the region, contribute to improving the living standards of its residents, and facilitate the transfer of greater amounts of technical expertise, knowledge, and scientific resources to its students and faculty members.
