University of Gharyan Participates in the Fourth Scientific Seminar on Olive Oil Safety and Quality
As part of the University of Gharyan’s commitment to community engagement, advancing scientific research, and strengthening cooperation with relevant institutions, the Research and Consultation Center at the University of Gharyan participated in organizing and hosting the Fourth Scientific Seminar in Gharyan.
The seminar was held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine in Gharyan, under the title “Factors Affecting the Safety and Quality of Olive Oil.” The seminar was delivered by international expert Dr. Maryam Gharsalawi, in the presence of a number of olive growers, olive mill owners, and professionals and stakeholders interested in olive oil production.
The seminar featured an interactive scientific discussion, providing an opportunity for participants to exchange views and experiences and learn about advanced practices and techniques in olive oil production. Discussions also addressed various observations and questions related to the production process and ways of achieving high standards of product quality and safety.
As part of the seminar program, the participants also undertook a field visit to Al-Mishkat Agricultural Production Company’s olive mill, owned by Jalal Al-Malushi, to learn about the modern technologies employed in olive oil extraction and the procedures followed in accordance with relevant standards and specifications aimed at producing high-quality extra virgin olive oil.
The participation of the Research and Consultation Center at the University of Gharyan reflects the University’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with the local community and relevant institutions, and to leveraging its scientific and research expertise in support of productive sectors, contributing to the improvement of local products and enhancing their competitiveness.
These efforts also support initiatives aimed at qualifying Libyan olive oil for export and enhancing the quality and competitiveness of locally produced olive oil, thereby contributing to its access to international markets and supporting the growth of Libyan exports.
